D Line of China-Central Asia Gas Pipe Begun to Build
On September 13, Xi Jinping, the Chinese President attended commencement ceremony of D line of China-Central Asia gas pipe in Tajikistan with Rakhmonov, the President of Tajikistan. It was a symbol that the forth Chinese transnational gas pipe in Central Asia was begun to build officially.

The gas pipe will improve capacity that transmits gas China from 55 billion cubic meters to 85 billion after being finished.

It is known that D line of China-Central gas pipe is originated from Turkmenistan, crossing though Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kirgizstan, reaching to Ulugqat in Xinjiang, China. The total length is 1,000 kilometers. The pipeline in Tajikistan is the longest. The pipe will cross through 47 rivers, 45 tunnels in mountains or streams. 60% of gas pipe in Tajikistan is in mountainous areas where high intensity earthquakes happen. The difficulties are rare in the world.

Both China and Tajikistan pay high attention to the gas pipe. In the joint declaration signed by two sides on that day, China and Tajikistan considered that the main artery of energy transportation is a tragic program which accords with development benefits of two sides.

China has large demands for gas. In 2013, the gas gap was almost 22 billion cubic meters and most of gas was imported to China by shipping previously. Shipping needed to cross through Strait of Hormuz, Strait of Malacca and also suffered from the threat of pirates. Energy security is always a secret worry for China.

An expert introduces that although pipe gas needs large investments and long pack period, it has high economical efficiency and low cost. The transportation is cheaper and the safety of pipe has high protection.

“For Tajikistan, energy pipe is not just passing through.” An expert said, “Development in Tajikistan lags behind comparatively. Energy pipe can provide fees of transition, helping Tajikistan solve financial issues and offering jobs.”
