China Will Raise Import Volume of Gas from Turkmenistan
For growing economic development, China is faced with mounting environmental challenge. Nowadays, a major strategy taken by China is to use alternative energy such as gas to take place of coals.

Therefore, on energy meeting held in Ashkhabad, the capital of Turkmenistan, China pushed forward overwhelming gas import plan. According to the newest plan, Chinese government plans to raise import volume of gas from Turkmenistan by 2020, increasing gas from Turkmenistan gradually and reaching 65 billion cubic meters per year in the end. Meanwhile, China will began to build up the forth line of China-Central Asia gas pipe. It is estimated that the transmitting capacity of pipe will be increased to 85 billion cubic meters per year.

It is reported that China also list increasing demands for importing gas into The New Silk Road Plan. China plans to import gas from Turkmenistan by using cash or loans. As the forth global gas reserves country, Turkmenistan is vital for China when faced with energy security and bottleneck of energy infrastructures construction.

It is predicted that in recent years, Chinese government is always investing large number of capitals into Turkmenian energy sector for developing energy economy. For this, many energy security experts warn that Turkmenian high dependence on China will affect energy security in the region. What is more serious, it will also have great influence on negotiation for global gas prices.

At present, Turkmenistan is making effort to realize diversified energy pipelines to reduce dependence on China. There are two programs being carried forward by Turkmenistan: one is forth line of China-Central Asia gas pipe; the other is TAPI pipe program supported by the U.S. The program is used to transmit gas from Turkmenistan to Pakistan and India through Afghanistan. Recently, Turkmenistan announces that TAPI pipe will begin to be built in the next year.
