China Will Lay a Gas Pipe with Pakistan
China will invest nearly 3 billion dollars to lay a gas pipe originating from Gwadar Port, the northern of Pakistan to Nawabshah, Sindh Province, the central of Pakistan.
The pipe cooperation program was signed, when Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan visited China in the early of this month.
The amount of investment on the gas pipe is estimated about 3 billion dollars. Among that, 1 billion dollars will be used to lay the pipe and 2 billion dollars will be used to build related facilities of gas. China will provide 85% of capitals.
In fact, in February, 2006, Musharraf who was Pakistani President then specifically proposed assumption that built China-Pakistan railway and energy pipes for transmitting imported energy to China and Pakistan became Chinese energy corridor. However, the assumption was delayed for being thwarted by the Western and other reasons.
If the gas pipe is finished, oil and gas resources from Gulf can be transmitted directly from Gwadar Port to the western of China without passing through Indian Ocean and Strait of Malacca having complicated geopolitical situation and long seaways.
It is reported that the gas pipe will extend to Iran further after being finished. Once international community relaxes restrictions on Iran, more than 1 billion cubic meters of gas can be transmitted by the pipe everyday.
